Joining a Live Event

What a live event is

A live event is training that happens at a set time, with a real host, instead of a course you take on your own schedule. Live events show up in BPS like other training, and your Manager can assign one to you with a due date, just like a course. Attendance counts. If an event is assigned to you, treat it like an appointment with a client.

How to find your live event

  1. Sign in to BPS.
  2. Check your assignments first. An assigned live event sits there with its date and time.
  3. You can also find live events in the Training Center, in the same area as your courses.
  4. Click the event name to open its page and read the details.
Read the event page with care. Check the date, the start time, and the time zone shown. Most BPS events run on Central Time.

How to join

  1. Open the event page a few minutes before the start time.
  2. Click the join control on the event page when it is time. The join option opens at the start of the event.
  3. If the event opens in a video window or a meeting tool, allow the microphone and camera if the host asks for them.
  4. Stay for the full event. Some events track attendance inside BPS.
Join from a quiet place with a good connection. Use a computer when you can, so you can see shared screens with ease.

After the event

Some live events link to a course, a recording, or follow up work in BPS. Check the event page and your assignments after the session ends, and finish any follow up work that appears. Your report card and assignment list are the record of whether the event counted. Check them the next day. If you attended and the event does not show as counted, tell your Manager what time you joined and left.

If you miss an event

Tell your Manager the same day. Do not wait for them to find the miss in a report. Ask what the next step is. Missed live training often has to be made up, and your Manager will tell you how.

You joined on time, stayed to the end, and your assignment list or report card shows the event as counted.

Problems you may hit

The join option is not there yet

You are likely early. Stay on the event page and try again at the start time.

You can join but hear no sound

  1. Check your device volume and your speaker or headphone choice.
  2. Leave the event and join again.
  3. If sound still fails, stay in the event if you can see the screen, and tell the host or your Manager about the problem right after.

The event time looks wrong

Check the time zone on the event page against your own zone before you assume it is wrong. If the page shows a zone that is not yours, do the math once and set a phone reminder for the right time.
