# Finding and Starting Your Assigned Training

## What an assignment is

An assignment is training your Manager sends to you in BPS. It can be one course, a group of courses, or a live event. Assignments have due dates. Finishing on time is part of your job.

There are two kinds of courses in BPS:

* Assigned courses. Your Manager picked these for you. They have due dates.
* Open courses. These sit in the Training Center for anyone to take. They do not have a due date unless your Manager assigns them.

When time is short, assigned courses come first.

## How to find your assignments

1. Sign in to BPS.
2. Open your assignments from the Main Menu or the Training Center.
3. Read the list. Each item shows its name and due date.
4. Sort your work by due date. The item due first is the item to start first.

Check this list at the start of every week. New assignments can appear at any time.

## How to start an assigned course

1. Click the course name in your assignment list.
2. The course opens at its chapter list.
3. Start with the first chapter that is not complete.
4. Work through the chapters in order.

Starting a course creates a progress record for you. Your Manager can see that you started, and My Report Card will show the course as In Progress.

## How to read a due date

The due date is the last day to finish, not the day to start. Plan backward from it:

1. Look at how many chapters the course has.
2. Split the chapters across the days you have.
3. Finish a day early when you can. That gives you room if a video or a test gives you trouble.

If a course is past due, do not ignore it. Start it the same day and tell your Manager you are on it.

## What success looks like

You can open your assignment list, say what is due and when, and you have the first due course open and in progress.

## Problems you may hit

### You cannot find an assignment your Manager mentioned

1. Check both your assignment list and the Training Center. Some training is open in the Training Center and not listed as an assignment.
2. Sign out and sign back in, then check again.
3. Ask your Manager for the exact course name and the category it sits in.

### You are assigned a course you already finished

Check My Report Card first. If the course shows as complete there, tell your Manager. The record of your finished work is in your report card.

### Two things are due on the same day

Start with the shorter one to get a finish on the board, then move to the longer one. If both are long, ask your Manager which one matters most.
